Annette Douglas Bruce was born on July 4, 1956, the tenth of thirteen children born to the late D.C. Jones and Margeret Hudson Robinson. She was raised in the close-knit Northside community of Bessemer, Alabama lovingly known as "The Field". Annette attended Robertstown Middle School and graduated from Brighton High School.
From a young age, Annette confessed her faith in Christ and was baptized at Macedonia Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor B.B. Strowder. Her life reflected her deep faith, resilience, and love for family.
Annette was the proud grandmother of eleven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, all of whom brought joy to her life and were deeply loved. Along with a host of nieces, nephews and special friend,Tom Oliver.
Annette departed this life on July 4, 2025, at the age of 69 in Birmingham, Alabama at Princeton Baptist Hospital. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength and devotion.
She is survived by her loving children, Ruth Shabazz of Birmingham, AL, Deborah Suzanne Robinson (Brandon) of Pinson, AL and Derrick Scott Douglas of Birmingham, AL. She also leaves to cherish her memory, her brothers, Sandy Douglas of Lipscomb, AL, D.C. Douglas (Veola) of Birmingham, AL, Henry Lamar Jones (Joan) Houston, TX and Quinton Earl Jones (Jackie) of Birmingham, AL; her surviving sisters, Denise Robinson of Birmingham, AL and Margeret Stanford of Wilson, NC.
Annette was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Nathaniel Bruce; her cherished son, Kenny Douglas. She also joins in rest her parents and several beloved siblings, Jackie Robinson, Douglas, Clyde T. Walker, Robert Douglas, Willie Robinson, Curtis Douglas, Willie Earl Jones, Betty Walker, Marie Douglas Witherspoon, Pinky Jones Camp and Anita Robinson Williams.
Annette's strength, kindness, and unwavering faith touched all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
