Minister Annie Louise Hill was born on September 14, 1936, in Perry County, Alabama, to Cleveland Mitchell and Irene Long. She was blessed to spend her early childhood in the loving care of her devoted great-aunt, Alice Green. After her aunt's passing, Annie moved to Fairfield, Alabama to live with her mother for a few years and later to Bessemer, Alabama, to reside with her father. Annie accepted Christ at an early age and remained deeply rooted in her faith throughout her life.
Committed to personal growth and lifelong learning, Annie proudly earned her GED and went on to obtain her cosmetology license. With her God-given talents and passion for beauty, she used her skills to bless others through her work. Her creativity and compassion were evident in everything she did.
In 1959, Annie was united in holy matrimony to Lovell Hill, Sr. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and service. Their union was blessed with a combined total of eleven children and nearly four decades of shared love and ministry. Reverend Lovell Hill remained her steadfast partner until his passing, and their legacy continues through the many lives they touched together.
After settling in Bessemer, Annie united with Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where she served faithfully for many years. She was a dedicated and faithful member, actively serving in the Matrons Society, the Usher Board, the Number One Choir, and the Deaconess Board. She also served for many years as Vacation Bible School Director, pouring into the lives of countless young people and shaping their faith journeys through both her words and her example.
Alongside her husband, Annie organized a neighborhood prayer band that brought residents together every Friday to intercede for families and the needs of the community. Her deep love for people and steadfast devotion to prayer left a lasting spiritual impact on all who joined her.
Later, Annie joined Christian Walk Christian Church, where she was licensed as a minister of the gospel. She embraced this calling with humility and passion, serving willingly and wholeheartedly for many years.
She later united with Providence Baptist Church (now Providence Christian Ministries), where she continued her faithful service under the leadership of her son, Pastor Victor Hill. Annie's heart for ministry, her encouraging spirit, and her deep devotion to God's people uplifted everyone around her. Her presence brought warmth, wisdom, and grace to every service, and her legacy of faith will live on in all who were blessed to know her.
In addition to her ministry efforts, Annie proudly served as a Voting Poll Inspector for several years, helping to uphold the democratic process by ensuring every voice was heard and every vote counted with care and integrity.
Annie leaves to cherish her memory nine devoted children: Rhonda (William) Ghant, Marilyn Hill, Victor (Jennifer) Hill, Tamber (Eddie) Ishman, Eric (Toni) Hill, Darron (Anita) Hill, Barron (Faleshia) Hill, Marsha (Gregory) Butler and DeDarius Hill; along with a loving daughter-in-law, Brenda Hill. She was blessed with 26 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 15 great-great-grandchildren. Also, she is survived by two beloved brothers, Terrance (Wanda) Scott and Carl (Juanita) Scott; one dear sister, Patricia Sparks; and a host of nieces, nephews, her church family, and many cherished friends and mentees whose lives she touched deeply.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Reverend Lovell Hill, Sr.; her parents, Cleveland Mitchell and Irene Long; two sons, Lovell Hill, Jr. and Cleveland Henry Mitchell; two grandchildren, Stacy and Nicole Hill; one brother, Lee Scott, Jr.; two sisters, Abby Scott and Christine Cobbs.
Annie's legacy of faith, love, and service will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know and walk alongside her. She was a woman of strength, grace, and unwavering devotion-one whotruly made a difference wherever she went.
