SUNRISE
Barbara Wilson was born on June 1, 1945, in Columbus, Ohio, the second of five children to the late Joseph and Julia Mae Fuller. She and her siblings-JoAnn Mills (deceased), Arnetta Hilliard, Tommy Fuller (deceased), and Mark Fuller (deceased)-were lovingly raised in Brighton, Alabama by their great-aunt, the late Vera Mae Hazierly. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at First Baptist Church of Brighton, where she was lovingly raised in the faith.
Barbara graduated from Brighton High School in 1964 and earned an Associate's Degree in Business Administration from Lawson State Community College.
Barbara's passion was serving and working with children, in which she was able to do in both the Jefferson County and Birmingham City School Systems during her career. Mrs. Wilson retired from Birmingham City Schools in 2015, but remained a loyal volunteer of many years for the Girl Scouts of USA, which was one of her favorite organizations.
She married Wallace Wilson, and together they shared over 50 years of marriage. She is survived by her husband Wallace and their children: Gerald, Wallace (Nicole), Andrea, and Dorion, as well as three grandchildren-Amariah, Kaylee, and Dorion Carter.
Barbara Jean, as she was affectionately known by many, is also survived by her dear niece Monica, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Our mom's love for her family was the heart of everything she did. Whether baking a cake or homemade brownies "just because," preparing three hot meals a day for her children in their younger days, or preparing holiday feasts that could feed an army, she found joy in nurturing others. Our Sunday mornings were filled with a hot breakfast of course, and preparing for church while listening to the gospel music played on WAGG as its broadcaster announced in an autotuned voice every Sunday to "Go...To...Church". She delighted in Facebook, spending time with family, online shopping, football and giving thoughtful gifts. To her, her job was watering her plants first thing in the morning and of course, caring for her beloved husband. Her legacy lives on in the warmth she gave, the traditions she created, and the love she poured into every moment.
Mrs. Wilson, Barbara, Barbara Jean, Jeannie, Nonnie, Mom, Mommy... We honor you. We love you. Job well done.
