Bettie Jean Bailey, affectionally known as "Bettie B," was born September 30, 1939, in Columbus. Mississippi to Eddie Perkins and Sally B. Jones.
Bettie was known for her kindness, strength, dedication, faith, cooking, sense of humor, being outspoken, and memorable quotes and scriptures.
A TIME TO BUILD
Bettie confessed her life to Christ at a young age. For 60+ years, she was a faithful member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Bessemer, Alabama under Reverend BB Strowder and currently Reverend William E. Scott. Bettie was very active in the church, as she served on the kitchen committee and the Usher Board at Macedonia Baptist Church.
At a young age, Bettie moved to Bessemer, Alabama, where she took an interest in cooking and baking. She worked at The Bright Star Restaurant for 50+ years until she retired. Even after retirement, Bettie occasionally worked at The Bright Star in her free time. While employed at the Bright Star, she was featured on Fox 6 Mr. Foods cooking segment.
In her spare time, Bettie enjoyed cooking, baking, shopping at Walmart, Belk, and Macy's, working puzzles, gardening, sitting on her front porch, watching Judge Judy and Texas Walker Ranger, listening to music, and spending time with family.
Bettie was blessed with five children: Ronnie Sr., Angela, Jeanette, Clista, and Reginald Sr.
A TIME TO MOURN
On Tuesday, January 6, 2026, she left her earthly home to be in the presence of her Heavenly Father. Bettie was preceded in death by: her parents, husband, son, Ronnie Bailey, Sr; daughter, Jeanette Perry; three grandsons, Anthony Bailey, Reginald Bailey, and Joshua Butler and siblings, Caroline, Dorothy, Earnestine, Earnest, Bobby, Ricky, Edward, John, and Joyce Ann.
Bettie leaves to cherish her precious memories: two loving daughters, Angela Bailey of Birmingham, AL and Clista Currington of Lakeview, AL; son, Reginald Bailey, Sr. of Bessemer, AL;seventeen grandchildren, Tonjula (Rashad), Darius (Yalanda), Denisha (Gibbon), Roderick (Barbara), Ritina, Alvin Jr., Kendarius, Rachael, Kimberly, Ashley, Ronnie Jr., Ronnie III, Radarius and Mya; two special grandsons, Darnell and Julius; two sisters, Louise Pryor and Eddie Mae Lee; one sister-in-law, Annie Perkins; a special son, Michael Pegler; 34 great grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
