Mrs. Cathareene "Poonka" Coleman-Burrell was born on the 24th of May, 1973 to late Mr. Cleveland Coleman, Sr. and Lorene Tubbs-Coleman in Bessemer, Alabama. Cathareene passed away peacefully on the 26th of October, 2024 at the age of 51. She confessed her love for Christ at an early age.
Family was the cornerstone and foundation of Cat's life. She is survived by her loving husband, Jason Burrell, her two children, William (wife Kelly) Coleman and Ja'darrius Coleman. Her adored granddaughters Skylar, K'Lana, Nylaa and her grandson Jamek. Her two younger brothers Cleveland Coleman, Jr. (wife Lynnetta, kids Camille, London, Cree) and Jerry Rose Coleman (wife Diona, kids Sean, Aubrey, Cali, Kaysin). Her Sister Jennifer Coleman-Smith (husband Robert VI, kids Robert VII, Jazmin, Haylee, Damien, Piper, Parker). Cathareene was a devoted: daughter, sister, spouse, parent, grandparent, and aunt, always prioritizing family, creating a home filled with love and joy.
Mrs. Burrell was a cherished teacher, entrepreneur and devoted family member. Cathareene graduated from Miles College, and Alabama State University with degrees in Business and Education. She was actively pursuing her doctorate in Education Administration at the University of West Alabama, committing her life & profession to advancement in education and innovation.
Cathareene spent several years as a impassioned teacher, inspiring and motivating the minds of countless young students. Her dedication to education and love for her students' success was evident in every lesson she taught. She wanted the best education for every one of her students.
In addition to her teaching career, Cathareene was a successfuo entrepreneur. She founded Ministries Under Christian Authority, Lorene's Restaurant (in her mother's name) and several other ventures including a local nonprofit, the Alabama Enhancement Group. All while making significant contributions to the great Birmingham community with her sorority Delta Sigma Theta. Her entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to excellence were hallmarks of her perofessional life.
Cathareene will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, tenacity, and unwavering dedication to her family, students, and community. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her and had the privilege of crossing her path. Always offering a hand to any and everyone.
Rest in peace, "Kitty". Your light will contnue to shine in our hearts forever, because of your Love of Christ Jesus.
