Catherine Dowdell

Catherine McAlpine Dowdell was born on June 16,1922 in Greensboro, AL.  She was the youngest of eleven, born to the late William & Millie Ann McAlpine.  She accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age and later joined South Elyton Baptist Church, where she remained faithful until her health began to decline. She was employed by UAB Medical Center, and retired with over 20 years of service. Catherine had a very sweet spirit.  She loved God, her family, the South Elyton family, the Pastor’s Aide Ministry, neighbors, and friends.  She enjoyed traveling, shopping, hats, and B.B. King! On Monday, July 10, 2017, Catherine entered her heavenly home carried in the arms of Jesus.  Her son, Joseph (Chris) Humphrey preceded her in death. Cherishing her memories are six devoted and loving children:  Joyce H. Folks of River Rouge, MI, James Humphrey (Lana) of Carson, CA, Valencia Bates (Terry), Ronald (Pete) Dowdell, Madelyn Greene, and Cathy L. Dowdell; nine grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren, and a host of other loving family and friends.
