Charles Lindbergh Sanders Jr.

December 3, 1957 — January 28, 2026

Charles Lindbergh Sanders Jr.

The transition of our beloved, Charles Lindbergh Sanders, Jr., affectionately called, "Charlie Brown", by his wife and known fondly by others as "Bergh" or "Junior", has called us together to celebrate his life. We celebrated our joy in the gift that his life was to us as we experience the pain and sorrow of his passing. As we share in the joy and pain together, the pain is eased and the joy is heightened.

Charles was the youngest of three children born to Charles Lindbergh Sanders, Sr. and the late Mary Elizabeth Williams Sanders on December 3, 1957, in Birmingham, Alabama.

He attended elementary school in Greensboro (Hale County), Alabama, Tuskegee (Macon County), Alabama and Bessemer and Birmingham (Jefferson County), Alabama. He graduated from Wenonah High School in Birmingham, Alabama in June 1975 at the age of seventeen and enlisted in the United States Navy. He received an Honorable Discharge due to a medical cause after serving two and a half years.

Charles attended Lawson State Community College in Birmingham, Alabama and Wallace State Community College in Dothan, Alabama. Prior to ultimately being declared one hundred percent disable by the Department of Veterans Affairs, he worked as an aircraft mechanic at PEMCO in Birmingham, Alabama, United Airlines in San Francisco, California, Lockheed Martin in Atlanta, Georgia and PEMCO in Dothan, Alabama.

While attending Lawson State Community College, Charles met Mary Frances Brown. They were married in August 1983. To that union three children were born. During that time, he became an affiliate of Brick Yard Hill Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Elder Paul L. Bevelle, Sr. He later moved to Dothan, Alabama and began fellowship with True Church of God in Columbia, Alabama under the leadership of Bishop Hector Grimsley. There he gave his life to Christ and was baptized by Bishop Grimsley. He remained at True Church for over twenty years when his health no longer allowed him to live independently.

Upon his return to Birmingham, Charles was affiliated with various churches before finally settling at Bryant Chapel A.M.E. Church as an affiliate member for the past two years. Charles and Deborah McConico were childhood friends.

Their lives took them in different directions before they each returned home and rekindled their friendship. Charles and Deborah were united in matrimony in January 2011. They remained one another's happily ever after until his death.

Precious memories rest forever in the hearts of his loving and devoted wife, Deborah and his children, Chara Taisha Williams, Charles Lindbergh Sanders, III, Ledarius Rishard Sanders, Kimberly Sanders and Vincent Deion Grayson of Phenix City, AL; father, Charles Lindbergh Sanders, Sr.; two sisters, Beverly Sanders Minor (Willie), Deborah Sanders Holderfield; aunts, Rebecca Goodwin and Carolyn Render (Eddie) of Detroit, MI, Ernestine Warren (Charles) of Perris, CA, Annie Harris and Delephine Rouse of Vallejo, CA; uncles, Jonas Harris of Waxhaw, NC and Abdul Raheem of Chicago, IL; three brothers-in-law, Willie McConico (Veronica), Jimmy (Treyci) McConico and Kenyatta (Misty) McConico, all of Detroit, MI; one sister, Roma McConico of Birmingham, AL; seven grandchildren; one great granddaughter; two bonus randdaughters; one nephew, one niece, three great nephews, two great nieces and a host of cousins and friends.
