George Hamilton, 102, formerly of Pleasant Grove passed away Sunday morning, April 21, 2024, in Pell City, Alabama. His love for his family and country was only surpassed by his love for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. George will be greatly missed, though his legacy of service and love will continue to bless generations to come.
George was born in West Monroe, Louisiana on April 2, 1922, to Roy and Beulah Hamilton. He proudly served his country as a Radarman in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Shortly after the war, he married Lynda Gurley, and they were blessed with three children, David, Vera, and Marti.
George led a life of service from serving his country to those in his community to his church. He served on 10 mission trips to Nicaragua and prayed over countless shoeboxes at Operation Christmas Child. George spent his time over the years volunteering with various organizations including the United Way and Meals on Wheels where he would deliver meals "to the old people," who were typically younger than he. He was proud to have been able to join the Best Defense Foundation on two trips to Normandy, France, and one to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
In August 2023 he moved to the Colonel Robert L. Howard State Veterans Home and vowed that it would be his last home and mission field. George's life of serving The Lord impacted more people than we will ever know.
George was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lynda; daughter, Vera "Sister" Hamilton; brother, Roy Hamilton, Jr. and sister, Royce Hamilton Chandler.
He is survived by: his son, David (Rebecca) Hamilton; daughter, Marti (Glenn) Sandifer; grandchildren, Michael (Brandy) Hamilton, Matthew (Courtney) Hamilton, Madison (Joe) Taylor, and Caleb Sandifer; great grandchildren, Eli, Sarah, Jackson, and Savannah Hamilton.
