Sister Deloris Spidle Holmes, affectionately known as Doll, was the first of eight children born to the union, of the late Mr. Campha and the late Mrs. Classie Bell Moore Spidle on July 28, 1943 in McDowell, AL. Her parents re-located to Marengo County and then to Jefferson County in 1949. She confessed hope in Christ at an early age and united with Mars Hill Baptist Church in Brighton AL under the leadership of the late Rev. Charles Manzie. She was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Mr. Louis Holmes Jr. on August 20, 1965. To this union one son was born.
She was a member of Mars Hill Baptist Church for most of her life and worked tirelessly for many years as the church secretary under the leadership of the late Rev. Frank Scott. As a child she sang in the youth choir, worked with the junior usher board, and the BTU. As an adult, she worked with the Progressive Matrons where she served as the President. Sis. Later she took some classes at Bessemer State Technical College. Deloris worked for a number of years at Brighton High School. She worked for South Central Bell and retired after 25 years of service. Desiring to continue in the work force, Deloris worked at W. Clyde Williams Terrace Apartments for almost 18 years.
