Earlean Brown Cochran was born in Birmingham, AL on January 24, 1938 to the late Ida Mae and Rev. Theodis Brown. She was raised by her step father Henry Dancy. Sister Cochran accepted Christ at an early age and in 1950, she joined Macedonia Baptist Church in Bessemer, Alabama where she served as a faithful member who truly loved the Lord. The Lord saw fit to call Earlean home as her work on this earth was complete. She passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster, AL She received her formal education in the Bessemer City School System where she excelled in her studies. She was a graduate of Dunbar High School Class of 1957. She continued her studies at Miles College where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Education. Earlean was a loyal employee of the Social Security Administration in Birmingham, Alabama where she served faithfully for 42 years before retiring on March 31, 2009. At the SSA, she was the Legal Administrative Specialist and one of the first certified teachers to conduct "on the job" training for new and experienced employees. She received numerous awards while employed with the SSA. She was actively involved at her church, Macedonia Baptist Church in Bessemer, AL. She served as the Adult Sunday School Teacher, Church Clerk, and President of the #2 Usher's Ministry. She also read the church announcements for years. She was the former secretary/bookkeeper for Strowder Macedonia Day Care Center and also served on their Board of Directors for 17 years. Earlean was an active community leader serving as a board member for the Bessemer City School System for a four year term and as the Board President for one year. She was a member of the Dunbar Class of '57 Alumni Organization and a member of Rosebud Chapter OES, #672. She was the recording secretary for the National Dunbar/Abrams Alumni Association for 15 years. She was preceded in death by her loving mother, Ida Mae Dancy; father, Rev. Theodis Brown; Step Father, Henry Dancy; and her beloved sister Theodis. She leaves to cherish her precious memories one son, Reginald Earl Cochran (Renee); grandson, Brandon and granddaughter Breigha; two sisters, Alfreda and Amelia; one brother, David and a host of aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
