HER BIRTH
With hearts filled with gratitude for a life well lived, we celebrate the homegoing of the late great Mrs. Eleanor Spencer Allen a woman whose love, faith, and caring spirit touched generations.
Eleanor was born on February 9, 1932 in Birmingham, Alabama and was one of a pair of twins born to late Ollice and Martha Spencer.
HER FAITH
At an early age, she confessed Christ. Throughout, she lived a life that reflected her steadfast faith and quiet strength.
She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, Ensley. Later she united with Bethel Baptist Church, Pratt City, where she continued to serve the Lord faithfully.
HER PRIDE AND JOY
From her youth, it was evident that Eleanor was born to nurture. Her greatest joy was being a mother, and she poured her heart and soul into raising her beloved children. She welcomed her sons, Reginald and Cornell Hall in 1949 and 1951, respectively. In 1953, she married Mr. Lloyd Freeman, and from that union came her daughter, Nassoma Bahati (Colette Freeman). Later, she met the love of her life, Mr. Charles James Allen, and their marriage was blessed with three sons: Michael, Darryl, and Eric Allen, and later, the adoption of their cherished grandson, Darryl James Allen.
Eleanor's love extended far beyond her immediate family. Her home was always open, warm, inviting, and full of laughter. Over the years, many children were lovingly "raised" by her gentle hands and compassionate heart. To know "Miss Eleanor" was to be embraced by her generosity, nurtured by her wisdom, and blessed by her care.
A devoted homemaker, Eleanor was known for her impeccable taste, exquisite cooking, and love of fashion and interior design. She found joy in creating beauty, both in her home and in the lives of those she loved. Her kindness was boundless, and she delighted in giving thoughtful gifts to family and friends, each one a reflection of her generous spirit.
Eleanor's compassion was most evident in her role as a caregiver. She faithfully cared for her beloved aunt, Mary Lewis Spencer, for many years in her home, and later lovingly tended to her husband during his long battle with illness. Her strength, devotion, and selflessness were a testament to her unwavering faith in God.
HER CHERISHED LEGACY
She leaves to cherish her precious memory: four sons, Cornell Hall (Charlotte), Micheal Allen, Darryl Allen, and Eric Allen, all of Birmingham, AL; one daughter, Nassoma Bahati (Rashid) of Long Beach, CA; siblings, Marion Spencer Ware and Brenda Jordan (Louis) of Birmingham, AL; brother, Benjamin (Bingo) Spencer of Atlanta, GA; eighteen grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
HER HEAVENLY TRANSITION
Though the Lord has called her home, Eleanor's love continues to live in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. Her life was a shining example of grace, generosity, and devotion-proof that a mother's love never fades, but lives on forever. Eleanor was preceded in death by her son, Reginald Hall; husband, Charles James Allen; twin brother, Ollice Spencer; granddaughter, Tiffany Dickson-Liddell; and nephew, Orlanders Earl Spencer.
