Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend went to be with her Heavenly Father on Tuesday night, August 26, 2025.
We were not ready, but her wings were.
Geneva was born on May 5, 1924, to John and Ida Edwards in Jefferson County, Alabama. There to welcome her along with her parents was her older sister, Mayme (deceased 2001). Geneva grew up during the Depression and lived in several different areas in Alabama. After graduating from Dunbar High School, she continued her studies at Alabama A&M College in Huntsville, Alabama, where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and Home Economics. Geneva taught in several Alabama cities before settling in Jefferson County and teaching for 30 years in this system. After retirement, she did substitute work as long as her health would allow.
Geneva and Norman Horn, Sr. (deceased) were united in holy matrimony. From their union, Norman Horn, Jr. was born.
Our beloved was an active member of First Baptist Church, Roosevelt City. She remained with this church until her death.
Geneva was a caring individual and was loved by many. During her visits with the sick/shut-in, the elderly, family members and friends, she would always bring a "little something" to uplift their spirits. Many of her friends and family members reciprocated. She could always be assured of being blessed by someone, especially on holidays and special occasions.
Our beloved was "real!" She was very outspoken in a gentle kind of way. She always asked questions when she wanted answers. Some folks said she should have been a lawyer. Geneva believed in getting her information "straight from the horse's mouth," so as not to get it wrong.
Geneva was able to enjoy many trips to visit family and friends for reunions, weddings, births, and other events that she deemed special. When her health began to decline, she slowed down but never was counted out. Always smiling and considerate, she continued to be "Ge."
On May 5, 2024, her son, Norman and granddaughter, Ebony hosted the 100th anniversary of her birth. It was a celebration fit for the "queen" that she was.
Remaining to cherish her memories are son, Norman Horn, Jr.; granddaughter, Ebony Bethany; grandson, Phillip Horn; greatgranddaughters, Kai and Giselle; sister, Joan Edwards Sadler; nieces, Patricia Allen (James), Jean Cunningham and Kimberly Sadler Johnson; nephews, Thomas Cunningham, Jr. (Mildred), Kenneth Sadler, and Kedrick C. Sadler (Almania); numerous grand and great-grand nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
These memories will also be cherished by the Brighton and Parkers Springs communities and her First Baptist Church Roosevelt City family and friends.
