Deacon George Leonard Myhand, son of the late Willie Myhand and Nancy Winston Myhand, was born on September 7, 1950, at George H. Lanier Memorial Hospital in Chambers County, Alabama.
George Leonard Myhand graduated from Rehobeth High School in 1969. He was drafted to serve in the United States Army in 1971. He served in the Vietnam War until being injured and received an Honorable Discharge and Purple Heart in 1973.
At an early age, he confessed Christ. He united with the Greenwood Missionary Baptist Church in Lanett, Alabama. He served faithfully as an Usher. Later, he joined Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, Valley, Alabama, under Pastor Robert L. Carter, where he was ordained as a Deacon. While there, he was the Sunday School Superintendent and a member of the Choir. After relocating to Bessemer, Alabama, in 2000, he joined Old St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church under the late Reverend Alfonza January, Sr. While there, he served as a Deacon and Superintendent of Sunday School for 20 years. In 2020, he joined the Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Dr. Michael W. Wesley, Sr.
Leonard truly loved God and His Word. He was always willing to give his testimony and share the word of God with anyone he met. He always kept a big smile on his face and a heart to match, touching the lives of many.
Leonard was preceded in death by four brothers, Winston, Earl, Eurl, and Ralph Myhand; two sisters, Willie Maude (Winkie) Myhand, and Verada (Fred) Bayless.
His precious memories will forever be cherished by: his wife of 54 years, Josephine Myhand; two children, Mashika Myhand, and Monique Myhand Hill of Bessemer, AL; two grandchildren, Micah Hill and Moriah Hill of Bessemer, AL; one sister-in-law, Cindy Autry of Lanett, AL; one brother-in-law, Lonnie McGhee of Lithonia, GA; a special cousin, Emmanuel (Sharon) Barrow of Omaha, NE; best friend and brother, Bobby (Susie) Heard of Montgomery, AL; special friends, Eddie Hall, Kenneth Dozier, Willie Dunn and George Huguley; other friends, Rehobeth High School, Class of 1969; special niece, Destiny (Jeffery) Lucas of Trussville, AL and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
