Janice Beasley

Janice R. (Powell) Beasley, affectionately known as "Sweet Tea," had a life filled with love, dedication, and hard work. Born in Perry County, Alabama, on October 3, 1943, to Mr. Joe Powell and Mrs. Mary M. Powell, Janice moved to Michigan in 1965 and spent most of her life there. However, in October 2020, she moved back to Alabama to be closer to her sisters.

Janice was a woman of faith who served the LORD wholeheartedly. She accepted Christ at an early age but rededicated her life to Christ in the early 2000s and was filled with the Holy Spirit. She was an active member of various churches throughout her life, including Highways and Hedges COGIC, Lansing COGIC, and Macedonia Baptist Church, Bessemer, Alabama.

Janice was a hard-working woman dedicated to meeting her children's needs. She graduated with her associate degree from Lansing Community College and started working as a school bus driver in 1975. Over the years, Janice worked several second jobs while driving the school bus. She retired in the early 2000s. She had a kind heart and was a natural caregiver. She was a foster mom for over twenty years and cared for several children in her home.

Janice loved shopping and is remembered by her family and friends for her love of shopping. She enjoyed going to malls, flea markets, beauty supply stores, and estate sales. However, she had a strict dress code for anyone accompanying her; in her words, "You need to put some clothes on if you want to go shopping with me."

Janice was a family-oriented person who loved spending time with her loved ones. Her home was always open for family and holiday gatherings. She was an excellent baker, and her family and friends looked forward to her famous carrot cakes, pound cakes, German chocolate cakes, red velvet cakes, and sweet potato pies. Her baking was a true labor of love, and everyone who tasted her baked goods could feel the love she put into them.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Joe Powell and Mrs. Mary Magdelene Powell, as well as her brothers, Mr. Phillip Powell, Mr. Moses Powell, Mr. Jeremiah Powell, Mr. Nehemiah Powell, and Mr. Shedric Powell, and sister, Ms. Anzie Faye Powell.

Janice R. (Powell) Beasley's loving memory is cherished by her three children, Mr. Erric L. Beasley of Tampa, FL, Ms. Theressa D. Beasley of Hueytown, AL, and Mr. Roosevelt J. Beasley of Grand Rapid, MI, (Mr. Roosevelt Beasley of Lansing, MI (father)), as well as four grandchildren, Joseph L. Beasley, Imani E. Beasley, Keion Beasley, and Roland Starr. ten sisters and brothers cherish her memory, Mrs. Rochelle (King) Westberry, Mr. Joseph (Dorothy) Powell, Reverend Granthan (Gwen) Powell, Mr. Abraham (Victoria) Powell, all from Connecticut, Mr. Roy Powell, Mrs. Mary (Jefferson) Moore, Mrs. Donna (Eddy) Osayimwese of Detroit, MI, Ms. Gloria Powell, Ms. Taphas Powell, and Ms. Shantay Powell, as well as a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
