Larry Glover was born on November 2, 1950, to Robert Sykes and Laura
Sledge Glover in Bessemer, Alabama. After 72 years of exploring, Larry
transitioned on March 21, 2023.
Larry was baptized at an early age at Allen Temple A.M.E. Church in Bessemer,
Alabama.
Larry attended J.S. Abrams Elementary and High School where he was a star
basketball player, scholar, and ladies’ man.
He exceeded scholastically during his secondary education at Georgetown
University, the University of the District of Columbia and the University of
Alabama at Birmingham.
He was trained as a photographer, and was an African history enthusiast,
bargain shopper, explorer, collector, and world traveler.
Larry began his career as a printer at Georgetown University, the Rush
Hour Printing Companies, and The University of Alabama (UAB) National
Aeronautics and Space Administration.
He retired from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), where he
received accolades for his contributions to many NASA programs. He helped
to innovate space travel by providing support to hybrid rotating detonation
engines to optimize rocket capability. His experience with Governmental
space and shuttles included the Protein Crystal Growth STS-95, Space Shuttle
Columbia STS-107, STS-83, STS-94, and the Space Shuttle Atlantis STS-84.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Sykes and Laura Sledge
Glover; his siblings, Joe Toney (Leona) Sledge, Pinkie Lee Glover (Reasno)
Hamilton, Virginia Glover (J.W.) Agnew, and John Gene Glover.
Larry leaves to mourn his passing a dedicated sister, Betty Glover Bonner
Faoye of Cumming, GA and a brother, Robert Glover of Oakland, CA; special
nieces and nephews, Peter E. Sledge, Sylvia Sledge (Dana) Armstrong of
Newport News, VA, Reginald Hamilton of Roswell, GA, Reginia Hamilton
Mingo and Reasno Hamilton, Jr., of Cumming, GA, Koriya Padgett (Anthony)
of Helena, AL and Nicole Virginia Hubbard of Forestville, MD. He shared a
meaningful bond with a host of great nieces, nephews, cousins , friends, and
his beloved J.S. Abrams Class of 1968 Blue Devils.
