Neomia Standfield was born in Fayette, Alabama, on September 11, 1933, to the late Willie Sizemore and the late Beatrice Loftis. She was the second (2) of five (5) children. In January 1953, Neomia married the love of her life, Robert Lee Standfield Sr, and ten (10) children were born to this union of 27 years.
Neomia graduated from Walker County Training School in Jasper, Alabama where she was known for her basketball skills. She accepted Christ at an early age and loved to sing praises to God at home, in church and with "Carl Howard and the Chosen Voices". She was a member of several churches throughout her life, including Shady Grove Baptist Church, Greater Shiloh Baptist Church, New Bethel COGIC, and Abundant Harvest Church, where she was an ordained minister declaring the word of the Lord.
Mother Standfield gracefully transitioned "Peacefully and Quietly" at her home, surrounded by family, on Saturday, December 23, 2023. She absolutely adored being a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother to five (5) generations. She adored God, cherished her family, and treasured her friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Standfield Sr; her father, Willie Sizemore; her mother, Beatrice Loftis; her adopted parents, Rosa and Oscar Douthit; and two sisters, Wyoming Burrell and Leona Hudson.
She leaves to cherish her memory her sister, Mary Huntington; brother, Larry Huntington; ten children: Teresa Standfield, Robert (Wanda) Standfield, Oscar (Pisani) Standfield, Kenneth Standfield, Stephenfom (Deborah) Standfield, Willie (Katrina) Standfield, Rodney (Telayo) Standfield, Fredrick (Laurie) Standfield, Julia (Leon) Cotton, Cleotra Standfield, and nineteen (19) grandchildren, eighteen (18) great-grandchildren, three (3) great-great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Mother Standfield was truly the matriarch of our family. She loved cooking and baking, especially at Christmastime, when her home was filled with the aroma of delicious food and an assortment of cakes.
