Pearleen King was a woman of unwavering love, quiet strength, and endless compassion. She was the heart of her family, a source of comfort, and a guiding light whose presence made everything feel safe and whole. To know her was to be loved deeply and genuinely. She was born on February 4, 1948, in Bessemer, Alabama, to the late Henry McNeely, Sr. and Amy Poellnitz McNeely. She was the fourth of nine children born to this union.
At an early age, Pearleen confessed Christ and began a lifelong journey of faith. She became a faithful and devoted member of Allen Temple African Methodist Episcopal Church, where she served under the pastorate of the late Reverend George W. Scott. Pearleen was actively involved in church life and served diligently in Sunday School, the Young People's Department, the Progressive Christian Women Society, and faithfully as an Usher. Her love for God and commitment to service were evident throughout her life.
Pearleen attended school in the Jefferson County School System. She was a proud graduate of Robertstown Elementary School and Brighton High School Class of 1966. Pursuing her passion for caring for others, she earned her Nursing Degree from Bessemer Tech. She retired from Lloyd Noland Hospital after 35 years. Nursing was more than a career for Pearleen-it was a calling. She deeply loved caring for her patients and served them with compassion, dignity, and excellence.
Pearleen was united in Holy Matrimony to Milton King, and together they shared 45 years of marriage. From this loving union, four children were born. Family was the center of Pearleen's life, and she poured love, guidance, and strength into every generation.
Pearleen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Milton King; her parents, Henry and Amy McNeely; her brother, Eddie McNeely; her sisters, Joe Ann McNeely Williamson and Betty Jean McNeely Duff.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving children, Roderick (Contay) King, Tamara King, Dr. MiaOshia (Theodis) King Curier and Juanita King; grandchildren, Enri, Te'Darius, A'Landria, A'Mari, Kynedi and Kevin; her great-grandchildren, Ka'iLani, Riley, Kartier, Avery, Ezekiel, Sarai, Ezra and Benjamin.
She is also survived by her sisters, Lucille McNeely Duncan and Juanita McNeely Paige; her brothers, Henry McNeely, Jr., Dennis McNeely, and Reverend Jerry Wayne McNeely; her sister-in-law, Dimple Shields; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Pearleen King lived a life rooted in faith, service, compassion, and love. Her legacy will continue through the lives she touched, the family she nurtured, and the faith she lived daily. Though she has transitioned from this earthly life, her spirit, love, and example will forever remain in our hearts.
Forever loved. Forever remembered. Rest-In-Peace!
