Obituary
Robert “Spunchie” Ward, Sr. was born March 20, 1957 in Bessemer, Alabama to Lou Jessie Ward and Robert Johnson who both preceded him in death. He was a graduate of Abrams High School. Upon his completion of high school, Robert attended Bessemer Technical College where he left to work for Southern Hydraulics. He was employed there for 42 years until his death. In the past, Robert enjoyed coaching. He enjoyed seeing his grandsons play ball. Robert was very caring and loved by all. He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Clark.
Left to cherish his memories: loving and devoted wife, Gwendolyn Hardnett Ward; children, Robert (Shanita) , Jr., Eric (Zhaundra) Ward, Sherrita (Ellison) and Dwight (Rodrelle); stepsons, Darrell Barber and Kadeem Robinson; grandchildren, Quindarrien Ward, Jalen Ward, Karrington Ward, Kennedi Ward, Jacoby Germany, Dylan Ward, Kendall Ward, Dahriel and Daniya Barber, M.J. and Shaquandra Tyler, ShaMiya, Mykeria and Mykell Roper and NyKeishiya Jackson; siblings, Bobby (Beverly) Nevitt, Dorothy (Wilburn) Curtis, Wilma Johnson, Elizabeth Johnson, Deloris (Robert) Boyd, Douglas Ward and Anthony (Sachiko) Ward; mother-in-law, Marjorie Hardnett; special loving sister-in-law, Carla Hardnett; brothers-in-law, Kenneth (Ganarda), Cedric (Pauline), Tyrone, Michael, Samuel, Lawrence (Angrinette), Eric (Caprice), James, III and Latoya Hardnett; very special friend who will miss him dearly, Alonzo “Big” Hardin; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
