Roosevelt "Bleak" Ellis was born to Annie B. Ellis Beard and Buster Allen on March 1, 1934 in Bessemer, Alabama. He was educated in the Bessemer School System. He worked for Pullman Standard and Jefferson County (Bessemer Division), where he retired. "Bleak" married Eddie Washington in June 1989. In 1993, at the Birmingham Crusade for Christ, he heard the gospel, obeyed it, and was baptized into the Church of Christ. He remained a faithful member of the Bessemer 24th Street Church of Christ under the leadership of Brother Joe Cash, until his health failed. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Roosevelt Ellis Jr.; and two sisters, Annie R. Woods and Evelyn Marshall. Left to cherish his wonderful memories is: his loving and devoted wife, Eddie M. Ellis; children, Annette (Arthur) Wilson, Michael (Sharri) Ellis, Ronnie (Angela) White, and Nancy Murry; grandchildren, Donovan, Alicea, Porshia (David), Jaylon, Scooter, Cookie, and Tre; sister, Emma J. Young; brothers, Willie (Grace) and Marvin Beard; aunt, Lena Ellis; special cousins, Aree Sheren and Freddie Jones; special friend, Tommy Doss (Tick); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
