Our beloved, Rose "Penny" Richardson George, a faithful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother made her transition to be with our heavenly father on Monday, October 20, 2014. Penny was born in Sardis, Alabama on September 25, 1933 to the late Fred Richardson and Rosie Donaldson. She moved to Birmingham, Alabama at an early age and graduated from Industrial High School. In 1953, she met the love of her life, Roosevelt George and they were married in Ensley in 1954, where they happily raised ten children together. They were frequent attendees of jazz and blues events and lovingly doted on their grandchildren until his passing in 1992. In 1972, Penny began working at Brookwood hospital as a neonatal nurse's assistant, until her retirement in 1999. Her community involvement included membership of Sardis Baptist Church's Young at Heart Social Club; being an active member of Holy Family Catholic church for many years and serving as a Daughter of St. Peter Claver. She later became a member of The Cathedral of St. Paul. Penny will be truly missed by numerous friends and family. She will always be remembered for her outgoing personality, stylish dress, dancing, attending parties, traveling, spending time with family and most of all, her love of the Catholic Church.
