Rosie Lee Billups

June 4, 1931 — July 12, 2025

Rosie Lee Billups

Mrs. Rosie Lee Billups, age 94, a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and faithful servant of the Lord, transitioned peacefully from this life on July 12, 2025. Born on June 4, 1931, in Eutaw, Alabama, she was the cherished daughter of the late Roger Coleman and Hattie Hill.

Rosie accepted Christ at an early age and became a dedicated member of her local church in Eutaw, where she joyfully sang in the choir and taught Sunday School. Her faith remained strong throughout her life and guided her every step.

She was educated in the Greene County School System and completed her formal education at Greene County Training School. It was during this time that she met the love of her life, Mr. Huie Lee Billups. The two joined in holy matrimony on July 12, 1952, and together they built a beautiful life, raising five daughters in love and faith.

After relocating to Birmingham, Alabama, Rosie and her family united with Parker Memorial Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Henry Haskins, now shepherded by Reverend Albert Shade, Jr. She served faithfully as a Deaconess and Usher until her health no longer allowed.

Rosie was the heart of her home-loving, nurturing, and wise. She created an environment filled with open communication, unwavering support, and unconditional love. She taught her daughters to carry themselves with respect, strength, and grace, never settling for less than they deserved. Her greatest joys were found in simple pleasures: cooking for her family, keeping a tidy home, and tending to her yard with care.

She was preceded in death by: her beloved husband, Huie Lee Billups, two daughters, Elois Davis and Dorothy Mack; grandson, Denzell Billups; and granddaughter, Nikkiya Billups.

She leaves to cherish her memory: three devoted daughters, Jeannette Debardleben, Gwendolyn (Sylvester) Cole and Yolanda (Kerry) Collins; brother-in-law, Raymond Tyra; eleven grandchildren, sixteen great -grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and a dear friend, Barbara Williams, who never failed to call and check on her, even when she could no longer carry on a meaningful conversation. Ms. Barbara never forgot her birthday. She would always call to wish her a Happy Birthday and send a card. Periodically, a card, along with a check would show up in the mail, just because.

Rosie also leaves behind a very special granddaughter, Lakonja Monique Billups, who shared a unique and unbreakable bond with her grandmother. Monique lovingly cared for her with extraordinary devotion, providing nurture and companionship that reflected the very love Rosie had always given.

Rosie Lee Billups was the embodiment of compassion, resilience, and grace. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
