Sallie Gipson

On January 5, 1935, Mrs. Sallie Lee Turner Gipson was born in Uniontown, Alabama to the late Albert and Inez Turner. She was the seventh of thirteen children. She confessed hope in Christ at an early age and joined the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Rev B.B. Strowder. She was a faithful member and affiliated with the following ministries: Deaconess, Counselor of the Beverly Brown Strowder Choir, and the YWA/Red Circle - Jefferson County District Association; member of the MBC Combined Choir, Adult #2 Sunday School Class, Missionary Society and theSaturday Morning Bible Study Class; former Director of BTU/NBC, and former Principal of the Vacation Bible School. She was a member of the Dothan Chapter #100 Order of the Eastern Star (OES). On December 25, 1955, Sallie was united in holy matrimony to the love of her life, the late Mr. Alonzo Lee Gipson, Sr. To this union God blessed them with three children. Sallie was educated in the Bessemer City Public School System, graduating from Dunbar High School in 1955. She furthered her education at Samford University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. For 40 years, Sallie served mankind through her impeccable skills as a Registered Nurse, having retired from Cooper Green - Mercy Hospital with over 20 years of dedicated service. Sallie's greatest love was the Lord, followed by her family, church and friends. Her sweet smile was a reflection of how she lived, loved and laughed.
