Sandy Alexander Smoot

Sandy Alexander Smoot was born on January 20, 1944, to the late Amanda Fowler Smoot and John M. Smoot in Geiger, Alabama. He was reared in Fairfield by his father and stepmother, Jimmie T. Smoot.

He was educated in the Sumter County and Jefferson County School systems. He was a proud 1962 graduate of Brighton High School.

At an early age, he accepted Christ. He attended Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Brighton before moving to Toledo, Ohio where he joined New Bethel Church of God In Christ. After retiring and moving back to Alabama, he joined Faith Chapel Christian Center under the leadership of Pastor Michael D. Moore. He served faithfully on the "We Care" Ministry and assisted in other ministries until his health failed.

He was employed in the Coal Mines before moving to Cleveland, Ohio and becoming a Truck Driver. Sandy drove an 18-Wheeler for Roadway Trucking Company for over 30 years. After retiring, he moved back to Alabama.

Sandy was not only a Trucker, also, he enjoyed crafting with leather, making wallets, purses, belts and more and gifting them to family and friends. He also enjoyed fishing and would travel back to Toledo, Ohio every summer and stay at least a month enjoying his hobby.

Sandy was handsome, lovable and loving, kind, giving and generous. Additionally, he helped others by manicuring their lawns. He absolutely loved his family and looked forward to attending the yearly family reunions. Sandy had an infectious smile and distinctive laugh ... and boy did he have some stories to share and tell.

Sandy departed his earthly life on Monday, June 9, 2025, around 4:00 p.m. at the home of his caregiver and nephew, Alfonso Smoot.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Amanda Smoot and John M. Smoot; his stepmother, Jimmie T. Smoot; daughter, Alfreda Penn; sisters, Clara Dunning and Dorothy Lindsey; brothers, John M. Smoot, Charlie J. Smoot and Willie L. Moss.

Left to cherish his memories: five sons, Sandy Smoot, Jr., Rodney Smoot, Grovonny (Renee) Nunn, Tremayne (Nicole) Smoot and Paul Smoot; two sisters, Bessie Roby and Jakeria Smoot; four brothers, Albert (Mary) Smoot, Larry Smoot, Rickey Smoot and JuNias Smoot; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; a loving and devoted nephew, Alfonso Smoot; several nieces, nephews, a host of other relatives and friends.

Sandy will be truly missed!
