Shirley Camp

Sister Shirley Galloway Camp, affectionately known as

"Grandma Shirley", was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on February

21, 1946, to the late William and Alma Jean Galloway.

She departed this earthly life on February 3, 2024. God's faithful

servant was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph

P. Camp, Sr. Shirley grew up in Topeka, Kansas where she loved

to skate, read, and sing.

Shirley graduated from Topeka High School in May 1964.

She was employed at the Veteran's Affairs (VA) Hospital as a

nurse aide. She built lifelong friendships while working in

housekeeping.

While visiting family in Cleveland, Ohio, her uncle Brooks

made a profound statement, "Jesus just might be the missing

link." These words were mentioned out of concern that Shirley

would experience the joy of salvation. She could not sleep and

spent the night praying for God's forgiveness until she felt the

overwhelming love of God. Shirley moved to Cleveland, Ohio to

worship under the leadership of Pastor Mahtena Brooks, Church

of God, Cleveland, Ohio.

Shirley married the love of her life, Joseph P. Camp, Sr., on

February 4, 1990, and moved to Birmingham, Alabama under

the leadership of Elder Karl M. Wilson, Roosevelt Church of

God, Brighton, Alabama. She was a choir member, treasurer,

usher, soloist, Sunday School teacher, exhorter, and loyal friend.

Shirley was one of the Lord's helpers and always blessed those

around her with her gifts and talents. She taught English and

History at the Acclaimed Institute for over 15 years. There she

nurtured and encouraged young children and families.

Shirley was a strong pillar and remained faithful and resilient

until God called her home.
