Tracie Leaquita Gray was born October 25, 1965, to Linda Ann Thornton and the late Elbert Lee Gray, Jr. in Birmingham, Alabama. Tracie was the first of two siblings with one sister, Tammy Marks.
On Saturday, January 10, 2026, at 2:07 a.m., Tracie went to Glory at UAB Hospital, Birmingham, AL surrounded by her children, her sister, and many more family and friends.
When Tracie was a young girl, her mother moved to Detroit, Michigan. She attended Detroit Public Schools including Detroit Cooley High School.
Tracie had two children, Jermaine and Chandria. After their birth, the family moved to Birmingham in 1987. In 1985, she met Micheal Lewis and they married in 1990. This union led to the birth of two handsome sons, Micheal and Brandon.
Tracie was a wonderful daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, friend, and all around funloving relative. She loved God, church and praising the Lord through dance. Her brother-in-law, Pastor Cedric Marks, and her son-in-law, DeEdward Saffo, always the unmovable force in her life. Tracie was resilient, strong, and steadfast, but at the same time caring, compassionate and kind. She was always caring for others, especially her mother, Linda Thornton, who she dedicated each day to caring for. Tracie was a Diva, through-and-through; her inner light shined through like the diamonds she loved to wear. That light touched every person she encountered and will continue to touch them even in her absence.
The shimmering of her light will be left to shine upon her mother, Linda Thornton; her children, Jermaine Gray (Marquita Gray), Chandria Gray-Saffo (DeEdward Saffo), Micheal Lewis, Brandon Lewis, and Chireyona Gray; her sister, Tammy Marks (Cedric Marks); her brother, Justin Gray (Kalye Gray); her niece, Carltia Oakes; her nephews, Carlton Honey, Jr. (Kelli Honey), Vito Honey; her loving aunts, Laura, Beartha and Annie Ruth, Cynthia; her host of grandchildren, Jerron, Jeremiah, Kameyah, Ja'Kori, Aaliyah, Paris, Prince, Kinsley and Nova; her host of cousins, friends, and very special life-long friends, Anita Askew and Renee Kenyatta.
