Wanda Ashford

Wanda “Honey” Ashford entered this world on March 30, 1961 to Willetta and Elisha Ashford. She was happily welcomed by eight older siblings. Later, she took the role as big sister to two younger sisters.
She was baptized at Friendship Baptist Church Brighton, at an early age where she worked diligently and was later employed as Church Clerk. Her latter years were spent as a member of Mars Hill Missionary Baptist Church Brighton, where she served as Church Administrator.
Her early education was at Brighton Elementary School and High School, later graduating from Jones Valley High School as a proud member of the Class of 1979.
Wanda’s early career involved working many years in management for Walmart. Her latter years were spent with the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) where she retired in 2022 after more than 30 years of service.
Wanda was a planner as she loved scheduling events, including sister trips, domestic and abroad. The final event she helped to plan was the Annual Ashford Siblings Unity Brunch scheduled for February 25, 2023. Her untimely departure from this earth was February 24, 2023.
Wanda’s passion was also that of caregiver. She cared for Mama Ashford until she passed in 2014, as well as other elderly church members.
Those who will smile at their beautiful memories of Wanda/Honey are, lovely aunt, Ernestine Walker of Cincinnati, OH; sisters, May Ashford Ellis of Birmingham, AL, Lynn Ashford (Roger) Williams of Bessemer, AL, Vickie Ashford (Dwayne) Thompson of Alabaster, AL and Angela Ashford-Hollings of Birmingham, AL; brothers, Otis (Deborah) Ashford of Birmingham, AL, Johnny Ashford of Brighton, AL, Jerry (Sandra) Ashford of Bessemer, AL and Timothy (Rhonda) Ashford of Midfield, AL. The most devoted and faithful great nephew, Dezden Mekhi “DW” Williams; loving and longtime friend, Veronica Crenshaw who shared their own special greeting “Bonjour!”; sister-friends and travel companions, Sharon Brown, Janis Haygood and Allison Robinson.
Family members greeting Wanda with open arms as she makes her Heavenly appearance: parents, brother, Donnie and sister, Maryetta.
Please comfort Wanda’s legacy, her countless nieces and nephews from the oldest Kimberly (1968) to the youngest Baby Kadence (2022). Also, her Ohio cousins, Ashford cousins and McCall cousins, along with her UAB family.
God blessed the family with Wanda’s presence for 62 years and for this we are grateful.
